With all kinds of mortgage loans left in limbo during the government shutdown, its effects are rippling through the real estate industry. We asked practitioners on our Facebook page how their businesses are being impacted during the closures, and, boy, did we get an earful. Over on the National Association of REALTORS®’ Facebook page, even more real estate pros were sounding off.
Some are seeing their clients practically forced into homelessness after their closing dates fell through when their loans couldn’t be approved in time. Others are seeing a noticeable slowdown in market activity, which could mean that the shutdown is making buyers nervous.
What’s clear is that there are stories to tell about what the chaos in Washington, D.C., is doing to real estate. So we found a few agents and brokers to tell us what they’re seeing happening in their markets as a result of the government shutdown. You might be able to relate to some of them, and they might even make you feel a little less alone in this mess. After all, we’re all in this together
